Warrior/Brine Sponsorship
Team Signs Three Year Deal

ASU Men's Lacrosse is pleased to announce the signing of a three year contract with Warrior/Brine Lacrosse. New Balance, Warrior's parent company, purchased Brine in 2006.

ASU has garnered national attention due to its meteoric rise through the MCLA in the last few years. Preseason polls have ranked ASU #1 in the league. The team's growing recognition has created the opportunity for a mutually beneficial relationship with Warrior/Brine. As a leading manufacturer of high performance lacrosse equipment, the company's support will make a noticeable difference to the team's budget over the next three years. In return, the team will endorse Warrior/Brine equipment as it travels the country playing the most competitive schedule possible.

Player Profile

Michael Montella
This week we profile a freshman attackman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He saw action in last weekend's Alumni game.

Why lacrosse?
Baseball was getting too boring, and lacrosse seemed like a better fit for me. I like the fast paced style of the game.

Why ASU?
I applied to a bunch of schools on the east coast but then came out to ASU and just loved it. Nothing back home compared to it. The weather is always nice. It's a lot better than being at home.

What experience was most influential in shaping you into who you are at this
moment?
Playing lacrosse in high school. I really learned a lot. It really taught me a lot both on and off the field.

What do you think you'll be doing in 5 years? 10?
Hopefully graduated from ASU with a business degree and have a successful job right out of college. In ten years, I would hope to have a solid career in the motor sports industry.

Are you a cat or dog person?
Definitely a dog person. Not a big fan of cats.

Favorite food?
Anything Italian. I love pasta.

Favorite movie?
The Hangover

Favorite book?
Lone Survivor  by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson

Would you rather be rich or famous?
I'd rather be rich.

Who are your parents?
Jerry and Susan Montella

How many siblings do you have?
One sister, Melissa (21) She goes to Auburn University

What do you do really well?
I guess the best thing I'm good at is probably playing sports. Sports have had a major impact on my life and I've always been interested in them since I was a kid.

What do you wish you could do really well?
Race Motocross Professionally

Would you prefer to have a lot of casual friends or a few really good friends?
I would prefer a few really good friends.

What are other sports do you like to do?
I really like to race dirt bikes and go snowboarding.

How would you react if you were transformed into a fish?
I'd be pretty upset. Not a huge fan of the water so I don't think that'd be too good of a life for me.

Coaches' Corner
Coach Malone Recaps
2010 Alumni Weekend

Dear ASU Lacrosse Family,

I hope everyone that was able to attend had a great Homecoming weekend. We had a number of events take place over three days. It all started with the Alumni dinner on Friday night. Next we played
the Alumni game on Saturday. The weekend ended with the 2010 team banquet on Sunday morning.

The Alumni dinner was held at Steve and Donna Noel's house for the 2nd straight year. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Steve and Donna for hosting the dinner. This is a time when the alumni can catch up with one another and pick my brain about the upcoming season and different things we have going on. I felt that we had a great turn out and I hope we can have even more former players show up next year. I would have to say the night was highlighted by the beautiful Long Island voice of Joe Muratore. Joe, if you read this, you better get back to a game this year. Your voice needs to be heard.

I was shocked that the alumni actually had a warm up this year......which made me a little worried. There were plenty of bodies on their sideline and the heckling was nonstop before the game started. The turnout was phenomenal with a great number of parents and fans. This was the first time that the 2011 team had the opportunity to play against someone else and the coaches were pleased with the effort. Every player had an opportunity to showcase his skills. The final score was 13-3 in favor of the current team. Sorry alumni, maybe next year. We followed the game with a tailgate on the field that was arranged by Eric and Jackie Kardesh, Jackie's dad Tom, Craig Cosgrove, and John Figueroa, aka Fig. I want to thank all of them for their contribution, time and effort. It was a great setup.

The weekend ended with the 2010 team banquet at the Mission Palms on Sunday morning. The turnout was great with a lot of new faces. This is a time to socialize, listen to my thoughts about the season, and get ready for the upcoming season. The high points of the event were the 2010 Conference and MCLA awards, the team awards, recognizing the seniors, and the team video that was put together by Kari Vosika. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Kari for the video and coordinating the event.

Please mark your calendars that the Alumni Weekend/Team Banquet will be held on Homecoming weekend every year. We will follow the same schedule.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to make this weekend a special one. I look forward to seeing everyone during the season.

Your Coach,
Chris Malone
